Converting between fixed UTC offsets:
UTC time = Source time − Source offset Target time = UTC time + Target offset
Step-by-step calculation
- Subtract the source zone's UTC offset from the entered time to get the equivalent UTC time.
- Add the target zone's UTC offset to that UTC time.
- Adjust the date forward or backward a day if the time crosses midnight.
Worked example
2:00 PM in UTC−5 (US Eastern Standard Time) converted to UTC+1 (Central European Time): UTC = 2:00 PM + 5 hours = 7:00 PM UTC. Target = 7:00 PM + 1 hour = 8:00 PM CET.
