How the Length Converter formula works
Every unit is converted through a common base unit (meters):
value_in_meters = value × factor_of_source_unit result = value_in_meters / factor_of_target_unit
For example, 1 inch = 0.0254 meters and 1 mile = 1609.344 meters — converting any unit to any other unit is a two-step trip through meters.
Step-by-step calculation

- Divide that meter value by the target unit's conversion factor.

Worked example
