How the Anniversary formula works
The same next-occurrence logic used for birthday countdowns, applied to an anniversary date:
Years together = current year − anniversary year (adjusted if the date hasn't occurred yet this year) Next anniversary = anniversary month/day in the current year (or next year, if already passed)
Step-by-step calculation
- Subtract the anniversary year from the current year to find years together.
- Apply the anniversary month and day to the current year to find this year's anniversary date.
- If that date has already passed, use next year's date instead, and count the days remaining until it.
Worked example
A couple married on June 14, 2016, checked on August 16, 2026: they've been married 10 years, and their next anniversary (June 14, 2027) is about 302 days away.
